Our Story
Literally Peace was founded in 2017 – born out of a shared passion for writing and a desire to build bridges between young people with and without refugee experience. What began as a German-Syrian authors’ collective under the name “Literally Peace – A Transcultural Dialogue” quickly developed into a creative movement.
Our first projects were blog posts in German, Arabic, and English, as well as live readings accompanied by music – events that brought people together and opened up new perspectives. Soon after, we organized an art exhibition and established growing partnerships that helped shape Literally Peace into a platform for artistic and literary expression.
In 2019, Literally Peace became a registered non-profit association – an important step toward professionalization. Since then, we have continued to grow and evolve: Today, we are a diverse and inclusive organization, no longer defined by national borders. Our doors are open to anyone passionate about art, literature, and transcultural dialogue. Nevertheless, our heart remains closely connected to the Arabic language and its many forms of expression.
Literally Peace is more than an association – we are a community that sees creativity as a unifying force and makes intercultural encounters possible. Our headquarters are in Stuttgart, but our members are spread throughout Germany, Syria, and the Arabic-speaking world.
Statutes
§ 1 Name and Registered Office
The association shall be entered in the Register of Associations and shall then be called Literally Peace e. V.
It is based in Stuttgart. The fiscal year is the calendar year.
§ 2 Purpose of the Association
The purpose of the association is to promote art and culture, as well as international understanding, tolerance in all areas of culture, and the idea of peaceful coexistence.
The focus is on fostering mutual understanding and dialogue between young people who live in or have fled from crisis regions and those who live in peaceful areas.
The association exclusively and directly pursues charitable purposes within the meaning of the section “Tax-privileged purposes” of the German Fiscal Code.
The purpose of the statutes is realized in particular through:

Networking of young artists and cultural workers with and without refugee experience, as well as with young creatives from crisis regions – through guided online forums, exchange programs, symposiums, public discussions, and more
§ 3 Selflessness
The association acts selflessly; it does not pursue primarily commercial purposes. The association’s funds may only be used for the purposes stated in the statutes. Members shall not receive any benefits from the association’s funds. No person may benefit from expenditures that are unrelated to the purpose of the organization or from disproportionately high remuneration.
§ 4 Membership

Membership Eligibility: Any natural person of legal age or legal entity can become a member. The board can reject a written membership application within one month. Membership ends through death, dissolution of the legal entity, resignation, or expulsion from the association. Resignation can only take place at the end of a calendar year and must be submitted in writing three months in advance.

Membership Fees: Membership fees are collected. The amount is regulated by the association’s contribution rules.

Expulsion: In case of serious violations of member obligations (e.g., non-payment of dues despite one reminder), the board may decide to expel a member. The member has the right to appeal before the general assembly
§ 5 General Assembly
The general assembly is the highest authority of the association. It is quorate when properly convened. The board convenes the general assembly in writing (including via email) at least once per year, giving two weeks’ notice and providing the agenda.
Decisions are made by a simple majority of the attending members. Participation is also permitted via online video conferencing (e.g., Zoom). Minutes are taken of the resolutions and signed by the meeting chair and the minute taker.
Key responsibilities of the general assembly include:

Determining the number, election, removal, and discharge of board members

Receiving the board’s annual report and deciding on the budget

Approving amendments to the statutes, changes to the association’s purpose, and dissolution of the association

Electing the auditors and receiving their reports

Discussing proposals submitted by members

Deciding on the right to appeal (remonstration)
§ 6 Executive Board according to §26 BGB
The board consists of two chairpersons, each of whom has sole power of representation.
§ 7 Managing Board / Advisory Board
Two chairpersons and two deputies are elected during the general assembly. The board represents the association between general assemblies.
Decisions are made by simple majority and documented in writing. The board is quorate if at least two members are present, including at least one authorized representative.
Authorized board members are bound by majority decisions.
The board is elected for a term of two years and remains in office until a new board is elected.
Board positions are carried out on a voluntary basis. However, based on a decision of the general assembly, board members may receive appropriate compensation for their services.
The board is authorized to appoint a managing director to handle day-to-day operations.
If specific wording in the statutes prevents registration in the association register or recognition of charitable status by the tax office, the board is authorized to make the necessary changes independently.
§ 8 Auditing
The general assembly elects at least one auditor, who is responsible for reviewing the financial records and compliance with the statutes. The auditor may not be a board member.
§ 9 Dissolution / Loss of Charitable Status
If the association is dissolved or loses its charitable status, its assets shall be transferred to:

The recipient must use the assets exclusively and directly for charitable, benevolent, or religious purposes.
§ 10 Amendments to the Statutes
Amendments to the purpose of the association or its dissolution require a three-quarters majority of attending members, with at least 50% of all members present. Members who abstain are treated as absent. Votes on statute changes are only valid if the item was announced in the meeting invitation (with statutory notice), and both the current and the proposed version of the statutes were included with the invitation.
§ 11 Data Protection
For the purposes of member administration, the following personal data is collected from members name, first name, address, e-mail address, date of birth, and gender. This data is processed and stored as part of the membership.
Literally Peace Board
Our volunteer board members lead the association. The two chairpersons and their three deputies are elected by the general assembly for a two-year term.
They make important decisions, plan activities, and ensure that the goals and values of the association are upheld – all without pay and driven by passion for the cause.

Funda Doğhan
Funda Doğhan kam 1984 in Ulm auf die Welt. Sie studierte Sozialpädagogik und Journalistik. Funda ist seit ihrer Kindheit ein Fan von Karla Kolumna und hat es beruflich geschafft, in den Kreis der Medienleute aufgenommen zu werden. Sie ist Teil der muslimischen Poetry Slam Gruppe i,Slam und eine Unterstützerin des aktiven Pazifismus.
Cansev Duru
Cansev Duru kam 1993 im hessischen Büdingen auf die Welt. Sie studiert Soziologie in Frankfurt. In ihrer Freizeit schreibt sie Gedichte und tritt auf Veranstaltungen und Poetry Slam Bühnen auf.
Mohamad Darwish
Mohamad Darwish kam 1991 in Damaskus auf die Welt. Er studierte BWL an der Universität in Aleppo. 2015 kam er nach Deutschland und arbeitet in Lüneburg im Bereich Online Marketing. In seiner Freizeit schreibt er Gedichte und tritt auf Poetry Slam Bühnen auf.
Faten El-Dabbas
Faten El-Dabbas ist eine deutsch-palästinensische Spoken Word Künstlerin und Politologin (M.A.) aus Berlin. 2016 ist ihr erster deutsch-arabische Textband "Keine Märchen aus 1001 Nacht" im Cosmics Verlag erschienen. 2018 veröffentliche der Zambon Verlag eine italienisch-arabische Version der Gedichtsammlung.
Nena Tramountani
Nena Tramountani kam 1995 in Stuttgart auf die Welt. Sie studierte Linguistik und Englische Literatur und arbeitet derzeit als freie Journalistin und Autorin. Im Jahr 2016 war sie Finalistin des IEMed Kurzgeschichten-Wettbewerbs “A Sea of Words”. Im Jahr 2017 veröffentlichte sie ihren zweiten Roman. Mehr Informationen zu ihr und ihrem Buch auf minamart.de.
Marwa Melhem
Marwa Melhem kam 1993 in Tartous, Syrien, auf die Welt. Sie studiert Bauingenieurwesen in Homs und arbeitet derzeit als Lektorin und Autorin beim arabischsprachigen Blog “Canvas” und als Übersetzerin in einer Übersetzungs- und Synchronisationsfirma. Sie schreibt Lyrik, literarische Texte und Kurzgeschichten.
Sherin Fernandez
Sherin Fernandez wurde 1999 in Nürtingen geboren und schloss 2024 ihren Bachelor of Arts in Englisch und Philosophie auf Lehramt ab. Neben ihrer ehrenamtlichen Arbeit in einer Realschule und im Ferienlager ist sie nicht nur als Kulturreferentin bei Literally Peace, sondern auch als Künstlerin und Aktivistin tätig. In ihrer Kunst beschäftigt sie sich mit gesellschaftskritischen Themen und nutzt kreative Ausdrucksformen, um diesen mehr Sichtbarkeit zu verleihen.
Sandy Eichoue

Shahd Alhamed
Shahd Alhamed wurde 1997 in Aleppo geboren und erwarb dort ihren M.D.-Abschluss. Im Jahr 2021 zog sie als internationale Stipendiatin nach Italien und absolvierte dort einen weiteren Master. Sie schreibt klassische arabische Poesie und Prosa, veröffentlichte 2014 einen Gedichtband und engagiert sich seit ihrer Kindheit in literarischen Aktivitäten in Syrien. Zudem interessiert sie sich für Mehrsprachigkeit und spricht Englisch, Italienisch und Deutsch.
Hasan Malla
Hasan Malla, geboren am 21.03.1995 in West Kurdistan, Tirbespî, lebt seit 2015 in Stuttgart. Als erfahrener Grafikdesigner, Fotograf und Maler hat er mehrere eigene Foto- und Malereiausstellungen organisiert. In seinen einfühlsamen Gemälden spiegelt er die Schicksale von Menschen wider und zelebriert die kurdische Kultur durch lebendige Farben. Sein aktuelles Fotobuchprojekt „Herz ohne Kammer“ bietet Einblicke in die Geschichten von Menschen in den Flüchtlingscamps der Autonomen Region Kurdistan. Hasan ist zudem Teil des Leitungsteams des Projekts „Humans of Stuttgart“, wo er die Menschen der Stadt in den Fokus rückt und die Geschichten hinter den Gesichtern hervorhebt.
Odile Néri-Kaiser
Odile Néri-Kaiser kam 1952 in Lyon auf die Welt. Sie studierte angewandte Linguistik und arbeitet lange Jahre mit Leidenschaft als Französich Lehrerin an Brennpunktschulen in der Lyonerbanlieue. Dort entdeckte sie Begeisterung für das mündliche Erzählen von Geschichten aller Art und entwickelte es als Kunst, Kultur und Mittel, Menschen über alle möglichen Unterschiede hinaus miteinander zu verbinden. Dafür gewann sie mehrere Preise und gründete den Stuttgarter Verein "Ars Narrandi e.V...wenn Worte wandern" mit.
Christopher Wittkopp
Christopher Gerhard Wittkopp (*1990, Ludwigsburg) ist Schauspieler, Theaterpädagoge und Moderator für Kinder- und Jugendbeteiligungsprozesse. Er war Ensemblemitglied des Institut für theatrale Zukunftsforschung (ITZ) im Zimmertheater Tübingen, trägt die künstlerische Leitung Jugendkultur (Come Together - Campus) der Staufer Festspiele Göppingen und ist freiberuflich im Schauspiel und in der Kulturvermittlung tätig. Im Bildungswesen arbeitet er als Theaterpädagoge und Referent mit Schüler*innen, Student*innen und pädagogischen Fachkräften in Ludwigsburg und Stuttgart, so auch mit Literally Peace e.V.
Saliha Soylu
Saliha Soylu kommt aus Ludwigsburg und schreibt, seit sie 11 ist. Am liebsten mag sie Gedichte. Im echten Leben ist sie Illustratorin für Kinderbuch, Webseiten sowie PR- und Projektmaterialien und lebt in Freiburg. Mit ihrer Arbeit setzt sie sich für Diversität, Vielstimmigkeit und empowernde Botschaften ein. Sie bietet außerdem Eventzeichnen sowie Kreativworkshops für Kinder und Erwachsene an. Benjamin Slavik
Ben Slavik, leidenschaftlicher Fotograf aus Stuttgart, geboren am 6. März 1987. Seine Kamera ist Sein Werkzeug, mit dem er Geschichten einfängt und unvergessliche Momente festhält. Ben dokumentiert verschiedene Veranstaltungen von Literally Peace und hält besondere Momente für den Verein fest. Außerdem ist er Erzieher und Student der Sozialen Arbeit.
